Artist Statement

I have shaped my techniques through sustained observation: of color in tension and harmony, of value organizing the visual world into structure, and of light reflecting off form, sometimes in familiar, and sometimes in surprising ways. Observation, then interpretation. Physics to Play. For me, painting is Play.

My work often moves toward "familiar abstraction". I am drawn to representational subjects that invite transformation --- through atmosphere, brushwork, shifts in color, pruning of detail, or reframing. These departures are not to withdraw from reality, but to study its components, then redistribute them in new proportions to build something new.
